Is Cameta Camera legit? Let’s take another look…
Since I last did a review for Cameta Camera on Amazon and eBay, I’ve been consistently asked if they are legit, if Cameta Camera is selling authentic merchandise, etc. If you’re in the market for a digital SLR camera, or a Canon camera lens, or anything photography related, you’ve probably come across Cameta’s store reviews on either Amazon or eBay. And for good reason too. Their prices are consistently among the most competitive online.
If you’ve been reading digital camera reviews, or been researching your next Nikon camera lens, etc., Cameta Camera has probably come across your radar. Or maybe you found a Cameta Camera coupon code, and you’re thinking, “this price is too good to be true”. So let’s take a deeper look into their seller ratings, feedback history, and overall reputation online. This should answer questions for better or worse.
What They Sell
Cameta Camera carries all the usual camera and photography gear like digital cameras, camera lenses, tripods, flashes, camcorders, filters, accessories, etc. They carry the major brands like Canon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Sony, Ricoh, Manfrotto, Olympus, Sanyo, Tamron, Vivitar, Bell + Howell, Nikon, Pentax, JVC, Rokinon, Kodak, and others.
So far, they look like a solid camera store, with the usual products, and brands. Let’s say you want a Canon EOS 5D Mark III 22.3 MP Full Frame CMOS Digital Camera, or a Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED Vibration Reduction Zoom Lens, chances are they have it. And if its been discontinued, they probably still sell it too.
Cameta Camera is located in Farmingdale, NY, but they also have their own online store -cameta.com – which is always a good thing. Established brands usually have their own website, so this is a good sign.
If Cameta Camera is actually a legit and honest seller, their feedback should reveal this. Are they selling counterfeit merchandise? Do they sell “grey market” products?
Cameta offers a 100% Authentic guarantee, as well as a 100% money back guarantee, but let’s see if the feedback reflects the accuracy of these guarantees.
Ebay and Amazon feedback isn’t the only place where online buyers share their experience. With the full internet in our arsenal, let’s take a deeper look. Cameta Camera has been in business since 1983. So there’s sure to be a lot of information to dig through.
Cameta Camera, also known as cametaauctions, has been selling on eBay since 2001. As an eBay seller myself, I can tell you that selling on eBay for over 15 years is not easy. I have been selling since 2005, and it hasn’t been always been smooth sailing. So I would have to tip my hat to their longevity there.
Currently, they have about 660,000 positive feedback reviews, with a 99.4% overall positive rating, Anything above 99% is usually a good sign. They are also a top rated seller – which means they have a proven track record of customer service.
Over the past 12 months, they have earned a 4.9 or 5.0 (highest is 5.0) in all Detailed Seller Rating categories (Item as described, Communication, Shipping time, Shipping and handling charges).
Their Amazon feedback is very similar. They have accumulated about 250,000 positive ratings, with a current overall 97% positive rating. Over the past 12 months, they have earned about 7,700 positive ratings, with just 2% negative. That’s a lot better than you would think. On Amazon, any little issue takes away from your score. If you ship one day past your advertised “ship by date”, that affects your score. If a customer mis-reads your listing, and sends the item back, that affects your score. So a 2% defect rating is indicative of a good seller.
As I mentioned, there are other places we can look to get a true feel of the seller. Most stores and sellers on eBay and Amazon are held accountable by the respective feedback systems. When you sell on your own site, you can run your business however you choose too. Feedback doesn’t hurt you nearly as much as it would on Amazon and eBay. So if Cameta Camera is not actually legit, it will come to the surface. Let’s see…
Cameta Camera has been a Better Business Bureau accredited seller since 2001. They currently have an A+ rating with the BBB.
On resellerratings.com, they have received about 8,500 reviews, with a current 8.78/10 overall score. The star graph indicates the the majority are 5 star reviews.
Their Google Customer Reviews for their cameta.com website are also assuring. Almost 1,100 reviews, with a 4.8 overall score. The graph indicates that the majority are 5 star ratings.
Other Things to Consider
Cameta Camera is an authorized seller for all of the major camera and electronics brands that they sell. Why is this important?
Did you know that most of the cameras and lenses sold on Amazon or on eBay aren’t sourced from the actual manufacturer. They are bought from liquidators, closeout sales, other resellers, etc. This is what is known as the “grey market”. Most of the time, these products do not carry the full manufacturer warranty. In other words…if that new Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera stops working a month from now, you just might be screwed.
Since Cameta Camera IS an authorized USA seller, that means their products come directly from the manufacturer, and do indeed include the full manufacturer warranty.
Cameta does also offer a 30-day money back refund policy. They offer a full refund, with no re-stocking fees. Always a good sign! Sellers that are a bit shady include the re-stocking fee to avoid returns. If your products are what you say they are, you rarely need a re-stocking fee.
There you have it. I think we can conclude that Cameta Camera is a reputable seller once and for all.
